Fantasy Football Draft Tier - Drafting with Fantasy Football Tiers

To create a fantasy football draft tier system start with your fantasy draft value rankings and create tiers for each individual position. Use player values, projected fantasy points, and your knowledge of each player and NFL team to determine where the drop-offs and cutoffs are for each fantasy draft tier. Some drop-off points will be obvious based on the player values and projected fantasy points. However there will also be areas where the value drop is very gradual making the cut-off points for some fantasy football tiers less well-defined.

Now merge your fantasy football draft tier lists together side by side and stagger the lists appropriately. The staggered fantasy draft tier sheet brings the scarcity of each position into play. By scarcity I'm talking about the supply of fantasy productive players at a given position. For example running backs are the most scarce since there are only 32 starting running backs in the
league and many NFL teams use a committee scheme. Running backs are also the most likely to get injured putting a premium on quality fantasy backups. On the other hand, kickers are the least scarce as fantasy football teams typically only need one on their rosters compared to three for running backs. Just to restate how I determine fantasy football draft tier cutoff points, I used the knowledge I have of each player and looked for large drop-offs in player values and projected fantasy points.

A fantasy draft tier sheet is the ultimate guide on draft day and it's easy to use. Here's how:
- Start at the top and work your way down.
- Keep in mind the fantasy football tiers do not equate to rounds.
- Determine when to jump down to the next fantasy football draft tier based on your draft position, your roster needs, and your opponents' roster needs.
- Use player values as a factor in making difficult draft pick decisions. For example if you don't come to a conclusion after considering your draft position and consulting your roster sheet, take a look at the player values listed on your fantasy football draft tier sheet. If the spread between two players is more than 15 points, you probably have your answer. However consider it a wash if the difference is 15 points or less which equates to less than 1 point per week. If player values don't do the trick then use your knowledge of the players and trust your gut feel.
